Cebuano reclaims championship
New
York City - Tribu Cebuano, a group of dancers who are Devotees of Senyor Sto
NiÑo de Cebu reemerged as Champions during the Philippine Independence Day
parade last June 2, 2019 held at Madison Avenue in New York City. The dancing
group was mostly composed of members of Cebuanos Engaging in Building Unity
Inc. (CEBU Inc.), friends, and other like minded individuals whose main
objective is to spread Cebuano culture and heritage by showcasing the
world-renowned Sinulog dance.
The
group bagged awards for Best Marching Group and Best in Costume with a
Sinulog-dance choreographed by Shiran Ybanez, Zeny Braga, and Axel Albao.
With
their peacock inspired ensemble, dancers, as young as five year-old boys and
girls, wowed the crowd with synchronized choreography, lively music, and
colorful costumes and props. The well-applauded performance also gained accolades
from the American public with an authentic and colorful cultural presentation. Aside
from the Independence Day parade performance, the group is also scheduled to
perform in churches and Filipino-American events around the tri-state area for
the rest of the year.
